PhD School

PhD School in Electromagnetic Technologies for Liquid Metal Processing

September 14-16, 2023. Riga, Latvia

(For student and industry engineers specializing in industrial liquid-metal technologies)

Organized by University of Latvia, supported by simulation software company CENOS and liquid metal technology company EPM Riga.

School director: prof. Jānis Priede (Coventry University / University of Latvia)

Executive vice-directors: Dr. Mihails Ščepanakis (founder & CEO of CENOS), Dr. Toms Beinerts (founder & CEO of EPM Riga)

Description: The school will focus on numerical modeling and simulation of electromagnetic technologies for industrial liquid metal processing. It is relevant for students and industry engineers specializing in liquid metal technologies and seeking to learn practical approaches for computer modeling in relevant space. The school will provide the student the shortcut to theoretical and practical knowledge in modeling of electromagnetic stirring. On the last day of the school, CENOS company will organize a hands-on training for the electromagnetic-stirring-specialized simulation software. The training aims to bring the students from zero to hero with no previous experience in simulation. This event is also designed to be an ideal training ground for industry engineers.

Brief agenda:

Thursday: keynote and theoretical intro into electromagnetic technologies for liquid metals

Friday: Simulation basics, practical calibration of simulation experiments, simulation practice

Saturday: Hands-on training for EM-stirring-specialized simulation software (by CENOS)

Sunday (optional): social - excursion for industrial heritage of Riga city

Monday - Tuesday: MMP conference
